Yesterday’s open day at UK Hardwoods was a wonderful gathering of minds, craft, and creativity. Celebrating the arrival of our new Thermo Vacuum System, we invited guests from architects and builders to enthusiastic home renovators and the talented students of Rowden Atelier’s renowned furniture school. We were thrilled to welcome such a wide mix of people through the doors.
The day was all about connection and education – connecting people to place, craft to material, and ideas to future projects. As a business rooted in sustainability and deep respect for the beauty of British timber, we always welcome opportunities to share what we do. This event gave us the perfect platform to showcase our sustainable production processes for our new Thermally Modified Ash Cladding and dive into conversations about everything from sourcing British trees to sawing, drying and finishing techniques.
With more clients seeking high-performance, low-maintenance timber with a sustainable story, this beautifully darkened, dimensionally stable wood is fast becoming a go-to choice. Its durability and striking grain make it ideal for cladding, as well as outdoor furniture, marine environments, decking and saunas.
We had some striking samples on display yesterday, and it was great to see people genuinely surprised at how British-grown ash can be transformed into such a rich, warm, and resilient material through a natural, chemical-free process. Seeing our timber spark new ideas for architects sketching upcoming builds or renovators seeking something different for their forever homes is why we do what we do. Otto and Obi from BlueTree Boat Builders may also consider Thermally Modified Ash for their future projects.
