We were delighted to host the team from Grown in Britain at our Devon sawmill this week, reinforcing our commitment to supporting and promoting British-grown timber. As proud holders of the Grown in Britain licence, this visit represented an important opportunity to showcase our operations and discuss the future of British hardwood.
Throughout the afternoon, we guided our visitors through every aspect of our timber journey – from log yard to kiln dried plank. Our team demonstrated our careful selection process for British hardwoods and our commitment to maintaining complete traceability throughout our production chain. Of particular interest was our new thermal modification plant which heats timber to 240 degrees celsius within a vacuum creating a completely chemical free modified timber perfect for cladding.
The discussion naturally turned to the growing demand for sustainable, locally-sourced timber. We shared insights about market trends we’re observing, particularly the increasing interest from architects and designers in British-grown species. The Grown in Britain team were especially interested in our perspectives on the ground, as we work directly with both suppliers and customers. We spent some time sawing a windblown oak tree on our Serra sawmill and the process was filmed to create a small documentary.
